Men's Tennis Wins Sixth Straight Match; Women Defeat Missouri Southern in Conference Play

MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( Men 8-1 W) ( Women 8-1 W) The No. 34 Northwest Missouri State men's tennis team won it's sixth straight match of the season in a 8-1 victory over St. Cloud (Minn.) State on the road today. The women defeated Missouri Southern 8-1 at the St. Joseph Tennis and Swim Club today.

The men improve to 9-3 while St. Cloud drops to 17-6. The women move to 7-5 and 3-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Missouri Southern drops to 4-6 overall and suffered its first loss in conference play, moving to 3-1.

Northwest swept singles play for the second consecutive match, led at No. 1 singles by sophomore Daniel Usieto in a win over Wojciech Batorski 6-2, 6-4. Junior Jake Saulsbury won his ninth straight match at No. 6 singles, handing Kristopher Johnson his first loss in nine matches in a 7-5, 7-6 decision. Usieto paired with senior Pablo Acebedo for the largest margin of victory in doubles play, defeating Joey Jachymowski and Kevin Lukens 8-4 in No. 2 doubles.

The women swept doubles play, with junior Carolina Amaral and freshman Lisa Pendrak winning No. 1 doubles over Michelle Hall and Kristen Meschede 9-8 and 7-5 in the tiebreaker. Sophomore Emily Lindsay dropped the lone singles match for the Bearcats to Hall in No. 1 singles 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Four of the five singles matches won by Northwest was done in two sets.

The men will travel to Kansas City, Mo., on April 5 for a 3 p.m. match with the Wildcats. The Bearcat women will head to Tahlequah, Okla., for three matches hosted by Northeastern (Okla.) State on April 6-7.

NOTES: The six-match winning streak is the longest for the men since a 10-match streak to open the 2004 season ... Its the first time the Bearcat men have swept singles in two consecutive matches since April 9-10, 2004.
