Mens Tennis Shutout Rockhurst 9-0, Women Fall in Final Match 4-5
The men improve to 8-3 on the season and the women fall to 6-5.
On the men's side, Northwest dropped just three sets and won all doubles matches by a score of 8-6. Senior Chris Smith, and juniors Lucas Ariboni and Jake Saulsbury each won in two sets. Ariboni won by scores of 6-1 and 6-1, while neither Saulsbury or Smith allowed the opponent to win four games in their respective matches.
The women won all three doubles matches, but just one of five singles matches. The double combination of freshman Veronica Castilla and sophomore Jordan Lipira dominated their cross-court opponents 8-2. The sole singles victory came from the racket of sophomore Emily Lindsay winning 7-5 and 6-4. Both sophomore Lina Gomez and freshman Lisa Pendrak battled to a third game, but neither took advantage of the opportunity.
The mens team will travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for a 3 p.m. match on March 30, while the women will host Missouri Southern the following day, March 31, at 1 p.m.
