Northwest Tennis Drops Pair of Matches to Midwestern (Texas) State
MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( Men L 4-5) ( Women L 1-8) No. 39 Northwest Missouri State men's tennis team suffered its third straight loss of the season in a 5-4 match against No. 18 Midwestern (Texas) State. The women lost 8-1 to the Mustangs to mark its second loss of the season.
The Bearcat men now stand 3-3 on the season after losing today's home opener. The women fall to 3-2 in its second home match of the season.
Senior Pablo Acebedo pulled the upset in No. 2 singles, defeating No. 47 Stefan McKinney 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Felipe Gennari and junior Lucas Ariboni won their fifth match at No. 3 doubles in a 8-5 decision over Or Banera and Travis Stegner. Junior Jake Saulsbury remains undefeated this season in No. 6 singles, improving to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over John Suard.
Sophomore Emily Lindsay provided the lone Northwest win for the women, defeating Brynne Chappell 7-5, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Junior Carolina Amaral and sophomore Jordan Lipira pushed each of their singles matches to three sets.
The Midwestern State men improve to 4-3 on the season, with the women moving to 6-2.
The Northwest women will be action on March 16 at Nebraska-Omaha in an indoors match beginning at 6 p.m. Both teams will host Emporia State the next day in the men's conference opener. Men's action will begin at 10 a.m. followed by women's play beginning at 1 p.m.
