No. 40 Northwest Men Fall 7-2 Against No. 4 Drury
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - ( L 7-2) The No. 40 Bearcat men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season in a 7-2 defeat from No. 4 Drury University in Springfield, Mo., this afternoon. Northwest drops to 3-1 while Drury moves to 5-0 on the 2007 campaign.
Northwest picked up a win in each of the singles and doubles rounds. Freshman Felipe Gennari and junior Lucas Ariboni picked up a 8-4 victory in No. 3 doubles over Antonio Garcia and Alexis Lluis. Junior Jake Saulsbury was the lone Bearcat victory in singles, winning over Lluis in No. 6 singles 7-6, 6-3. Each of the singles matches were decided in two sets.
Northwest faces another ITA/FILA nationally ranked opponent on March 10, facing No. 5 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) Start time from the Cooper Tennis Courts in Springfield, Mo., is set for 10 a.m.
NOTES: Northwest remains No. 40 in the latest ITA/FILA nationwide rankings released March 9 ... The loss to Drury is the first loss suffered by the Bearcats since losing to the same team in the first round of the NCAA national tournament in Kansas City, Mo., in 2006.
