Amaral Falls in Third Round of ITA Regional Championships
TOPEKA, Kan. - Junior Carolina Amaral was the only athlete from Northwest to advance to the second day of singles competition in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) North Central Singles Region Championships, held in Topeka, Kan., over the weekend.
Amaral fell in the third round to seventh-seeded Ivetta Wolframm of Southwest Baptist University in 6-5, 6-2. Sophomore Emily Lindsay advanced to the second round, but fell 6-2, 6-2 to Marina Buganenco from Minnesota State, Mankato.
In doubles competition, sophomore Lina Gomez and freshman Veronica Castilla was the only Bearcat doubles team to advance past the first round, but fell 8-6 in the second to Courtney Walther and Lindsay Blair of Truman State.
The Northwest men will host the ITA Men's Regional Championships on Sept. 29-Oct. 1, in Maryville, Mo.
