
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Both Northwest Missouri State tennis teams ended their seasons today in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament, held today at the Plaza Tennis Courts in Kansas City, Mo. The men lost 0-5 to No. 1 Drury (Mo.), while the women ended their season with a 2-5 loss to No. 24 Drury.
The men, making their first national tournament appearance since 2003, went 8-6 in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Juniors Pablo Acebedo and Chris Smith lost to Omar Laalej and Stefan Borg in No. 1 doubles, while sophomores Lucas Ariboni and Henrique Tomaz matched the score in No. 3 doubles.
Freshman Emily Lindsey won the women’s only singles match, defeating Lindsey Castrodale 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles. The Bearcats were victorious in No. 3 doubles, as freshmen Lina Gomez and Jordan Lipira defeated Megan Blosser and Jernine Carter 8-3.
The men end their season with a 13-10 overall record, while the women conclude with a 21-3 record. The women won their 10th MIAA tournament title on April 23, while the men finished second to Washburn in the conference tournament.
