Bearcat Men Win 5-1 Over Metro State to Advance to Regional Final Against Washburn
TOPEKA, Kan. - Northwest Missouri State men's tennis won two of three doubles matches
and then swept the first three singles matches to defeat Metro State 5-1 in the first round of the NCAA II North Central Region men's tennis tournament at Wood Valley Tennis Center. The Bearcats will play Saturday at 9 a.m. CST against the winner of host Washburn and Winona State for a chance to advance to the NCAA national tournament.
After getting the ealry lead after doubles play, the Bearcats had to come back to win at the first two singles matches. No. 1 player Pablo Acebedo lost the first set 6-3 against Roadrunner Andre Nilsson but came back and took the next two, 7-6 and 6-1. Henrique Tomaz lost to MSCD's Riley Meyer 6-3 in his first set at No. 2 but won the next two, 6-3 and
6-4. Chris Smith won his match at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1.
Drew Macholz and Mark Milner won the only match for Metro State with an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Northwest faces Washburn in the finals at 9 a.m. on Saturday in Topeka, Kan.
