
MARYVILLE, Mo. – No. 34 Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team, fresh off its 10th Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Championship last Sunday, earned the right to host the North Central Regional on May 4-5 at Frank Grube Courts on the Northwest campus. As the No. 1 seed, Northwest is one of 16 first-and-second-round sites of the 2006 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships.
The Bearcat women will take on No. 8 seed Truman State at 9 a.m. on Thursday while Emporia State faces Washburn in the other first-round match. The regional championship is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday. The rain site is the St. Joseph Tennis and Swim Club in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Northwest men will travel to Topeka, Kan., and Washburn University for the North Central Regional on May 5-6 from the Washburn Tennis Courts. The Bearcats, who earned the No. 3 seed, will face No. 6 Metro (Colo.) State at 9 a.m. on Friday. Washburn and Winona (Minn.) State will square off at 1 p.m. in the other first-round match. First-round winners will face off at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The rain site is Wood Valley Racquet Club.
"We are honored to have the regional here in Maryville," said head coach Mark Rosewell, who has now earned 18 MIAA Coach of the Year awards after being named the men's and women's sideline general this week. "It is a distinguished event to have in our town. For the men, I hope we can get another shot at Washburn in the final and take two out of three from them this year."

Men's and women's regional winners advance to the finals in Kansas City, Mo., on May 10-13 with the Kansas City Sports Commission and Rockhurst University serving as co-hosts. The Championship website can be found at www.rockhurst.edu
The women will be in action against Drury University (Mo.) in Kansas City, Mo., on April 28. The match is slated to start at 3 p.m.
