Northwest Tennis Wraps up Central Oklahoma Tournament Action
EDMOND, Okla. - The Northwest men defeated East Central (Okla.) University 6-3 at the Central Oklahoma Tournament, but lost to the University of Central Oklahoma 5-2. The men fell 6-3 to Midwestern State (Texas) University while the women fell 5-1 to the same opponent today. The women's team is now 16-2 and the men stand at 10-8. Both teams went a combined 2-4 during the tournament
The women defeated Midwestern State in No. 1 doubles with Gena Lindsay and Erica Ramirez winning 8-6 over Faye D'Hamecourt and Cilia Miller. Midwestern State swept the singles competition, with only three singles matches being played to completion.
For the men against East Central University, Northwest won No. 1 singles with Pablo Acebado defeating Quynh Cao Tran 6-7, 7-5, 6-4. The men lost No. 1 doubles, but won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, winning 8-4 and 8-5, respectively.
The men's only doubles win against Central Oklahoma came in a walkover in No. 3 doubles by Lucas Ariboni and Zach Keith. The only win in singles competition came from Daniel Isieto in No. 3 singles, defeating Mark Johnson 1-0.
Against Midwestern State, the men won the No. 3 doubles with the pair of Ariboni and Henrique Tomaz 8-2 defeating Tyson D'Acosta and Stefan McKinney. The Bearcats were able to gain wins in No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Isieto defeated Gene Ligeon 6-1, 7-6 in No. 4, while Keith won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 6 singles over Jared King.
Both teams will be at home on Tues., April 18 against Graceland (Iowa). Matches are set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
