Both Clubs Sweep Washburn in Final MIAA Match

TOPEKA, Kan.- The Northwest Missouri State men's and women's tennis teams came back to defeat Washburn University in MIAA action this afternoon. Both Bearcat clubs were down in two of three doubles sets before winning 6-3 for the men and 5-4 for the 34th-ranked women.

Senior Gena Lindsay, who earned MIAA athlete of the week for the third time yesterday, won for the 27th straight time in No. 1 singles after sitting down Jennifer Keiner 6-4, 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, freshmen Jordan Lipira and Lena Gomez won their seventh straight match with a 8-3 victory over Audrie Miller and Alex Rodenbeek.

Freshman Emily Lindsay, Gena's younger sister, prevailed 6-2, 6-3 over Lisa Coleman at No. 6 singles to move to 12-0 on the year.

On the men's side, the No. 2 doubles team of freshman Daniel Isieto and sophomore Jake Saulsbury were the only pair to win for Northwest - that was just their second time playing together. Washburn could only snatch one match in singles play at No. 4. Otherwise, Northwest won in the five other singles matches in straight sets besides the 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win from sophomore Lucas Ariboni over Tyler Kinder at No. 5.

The No. 1 team in the region, the Bearcat women join the men in the Central Oklahoma Tournament this Friday and Saturday. The women stand at 15-0 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in the MIAA while the men improve to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the MIAA.
