Squads Split at RockhurstKANSAS CITY - The Northwest Missouri State women's tennis team moved to 12-0 on the year and lived up to its No. 1 North Central Region ranking with a 6-3 victory this afternoon at Rockhurst (Mo.). The Bearcat men came up short against Rockhurst 5-4 to fall to 7-5 overall.
On the women's side, senior Gena Lindsay won her 24th straight match with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Kristin Davis at No. 1 singles. Lindsay, who is ranked 31st nationally, last lost on March 23, 2005 against East Central. The only singles matches lost were at No. 3 and No. 5. The top duo of Lindsay and senior Erica Ramirez dropped an 8-6 decision to Heather Renier and Kandice Belanger.
The men's singles were split with No. 2 Pablo Acebedo, No. 5 Lucas Ariboni and No. 6 Zach Keith all winning for the Bearcats. However, RU took two of three in doubles action. The No. 3 doubles tandem of Keith and Ariboni won their sixth straight and moved to 9-3 on the year with the 9-7 victory over Adam Ricceri and Ryan Field.
The Bearcat men are next scheduled to play at St. Cloud State (Minn.) on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. while the women are set to face the Huskies of SCSU on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
