Northwest Tennis Sweeps Double Header
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The No. 40 Northwest Missouri State tennis teams defeated Truman State yesterday evening in a shorten match. The men downed Truman 5-1, while improving their record to 6-4. The women meanwhile stayed perfect with a 6-0 win to stay unbeaten at 10-0.
The women won five-of-six in singles competition, the match Northwest did not win was Carolina Amaral's, whose match went unfinished. Senior No. 29 Gena Lindsay was the only Bearcat shutout her opponent twice, as she blanked Truman's Jennifer Salmon, 6-0, 6-0.
The freshman combination of Jordan Lipira and Amanda Hardie won the only doubles match yesterday with an 8-4 win.
The men's doubles team of Jake Salsberry and Henrique Tomez lost 2-8 to Brad Martin and Sean Cooper for the only loss for Northwest. In singles play, Tomez pulled out the 6-2, 6-2 win, Pablo Acebedo also got a W with 6-2, 6-0 victory. The final victory for the Bearcats was Chris Smith, who won in three, 4-6, 6-4 and 7-6.
The next competition for the women is April 1versus Minnesota-Mankato in St. Joseph, and the men will hit the court on April 5 at Rockhurst.
