Northwest Tennis Sweeps Double Header
KEARNEY, Neb. - The Northwest Missouri State men's and women's tennis team won a double header yesterday over Nebraska-Kearney. The Bearcat women stayed unbeaten with a 9-0 win, while men won 5-1 in a shorten set.
The Northwest women did not allow Kearney to win a set in the entire match, with senior Gena and freshman Emily Lindsay (St. Joseph, Mo.) blanking their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Freshmen Lena Gomez (Barcelona, Spain) and Jordan Lipira (St. Joseph, Mo.) won their single matches, 6-1, 6-0 and 7-6, 6-0 respectively.
On the men's side, the Bearcats swept the doubles competition, while sophomore Henrique Tomaz (Rio De Janerio, Brazil) lost the only match, 0-6, 2-6 to William Jacome. Junior classmates Pablo Acebedo (Barcelona, Spain) and Chris Smith (Johannesburg, South Africa) won their singles matches 6-4, 7-5 and 6-7, 7-6, 7-4 to help secure the win.
The women are now 9-0 on the season, while the men go a game above .500 at 5-4. Both teams will be back in action today against Truman State at 5 p.m. in St. Joseph.
