Northwest Tennis Teams Sweep Metro State and Colorado-Pueblo
TOPEKA, Kan. - Both Northwest Missouri State tennis teams swept their opponents today in Topeka, Kan. The men defeated Metropolitan State 5-2 and Colorado State-Pueblo 5-0. The women were triumphant over Metropolitan State 5-0 and Colorado State-Pueblo 5-1.
Against Metro State, the Northwest men scored only one win in doubles competition. Lucas Ariboni and Zach Keith defeated Will Meyer and Sean Carlton 8-3 in No. 3 doubles. In No. 1 singles, Pablo Acebedo was victorious over Andre Nilsson (6-4, 6-3) while Keith defeated Sean Carlton 8-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles.
For the men against Colorado State-Pueblo in No. 1 doubles, Acebedo and Daniel Isieto defeated Brandon Beauvais and Greg Greenwood 8-5. Isieto also won against Mitch Joyce in No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0) while Chris Smith defeated Kyle Eades 6-1, 6-1, in No. 4 singles.
In No. 1 doubles competition against Metro State, Gena Lindsay and Erica Ramirez won 8-1 against Mirian Evangelista and Mitra Hirad. Carolina Amaral and Emily Lindsay also won 8-1 in No. 2 doubles against Ragnhild Kinoshita and Akiko Kinoshita. In No. 1 singles, Lindsay was successful against Hirad, winning 6-0, 6-0.
In the women's second match against Colorado State, Lindsay and Ramirez earned their third No. 1 doubles win of the season, defeating Cyndi Nagy and Marissa Brown 8-1. Lindsay won the No. 1 singles competition (6-1, 6-1) against Nagy, while Amaral defeated Ashley Erickson 6-0, 6-2, in No. 2 singles.
The women will have their home opener Tuesday against Missouri Western, with games beginning at 3 p.m. The men will travel Mar. 11 to Springfield, Mo., to compete against Cameron (Okla.).
