Lindsay and Ramirez End Day 1 of ITA NationalsFT. MYERS - Fla. -- Northwest Missouri State women's tennis seniors Gena Lindsay (St. Joseph, Mo.) and Erica Ramirez (St. Petersburg, Fla.) lost their first round matches in Day 1 of the 2005 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships, presented by the USTA today. The event was hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University.
Lindsay lost her singles match this morning to Victoria Weltz of Lynn (Fla.) 6-2, 6-2. Lindsay moves to the consolation round where she faces Dasha Segenchuk of East Central tomorrow (Friday) at 8 a.m. Then, Lindsay and Ramirez teamed up and dropped a 7-6 (3), 6-1 decision to Annika Biro and Anne Corten of Valdosta (Ga.) State later in the day. The duo next matches up with Leila Salek and Marissa Muchow of Ferris State (Mich.) tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in the consolation round.
"They didn't play bad," said head coach Mark Rosewell referring to his tandem. "Lindsay lost to a girl that made it to the finals last year. They will get another shot tomorrow in the consolation round."

Lindsay and Ramirez are both making their second Nationals appearance with Lindsay taking seventh in singles play last season while the combo took eighth in doubles action.
