Bearcat Tennis Squads Defeat Winona State
TOPEKA, Kan . - Both Northwest Missouri State tennis teams began the regular season with wins over Winona State (Minn.) in Topeka, Kan. The men won 9-0 while the women won 8-1.
For the men, Pablo Acebado earned a No. 1 singles win (3-6, 6-2, 7-6) and paired with Chris Smith to defeat Josh Malwitz and Kyle Savelkoul of Winona State in No. 1 doubles (8-3). All other singles matches were won in two games. Lucas Ariboni and Zach Keith were victorious their No. 3 doubles match, winning in the tiebreaker 7-5.
On the women's side, Gina Lindsay, the region's top singles player in preseason polls, defeated Michele Bailey in No. 1 singles action (2-6, 6-1, 6-0). Winona State earned their single victory of the evening when Ilona Bes defeated Carolina Amaral (3-6, 6-4, 7-6) in No. 2 singles. Lindsay and Erica Ramirez defeated Winona's Bes and Bailey in No. 1 singles action 8-6.
Both tennis teams will be in action tomorrow in Topeka, Kan., as they take on Metropolitan State at noon and Colorado-Pueblo at 3 p.m.
