Lindsay Tabbed as ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team Selection

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State women's tennis student-athlete Gena Lindsay (St. Joseph, Mo.) was honored on the 2004-05 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's At-Large Third Team College Division, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in mid-June. The junior elementary education major was the 2005 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Player of the Year after going 20-3 at No. 1 singles en route to a No. 1 ranking in the North Central Region.

In late May, Lindsay was honored with 2004-05 ESPN The Magzine Academic All-America College Division Women's At-Large District VII laurels.

Lindsay, who also was a unanimous All-MIAA selection at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, was tabbed with MIAA Co-Sportmanship of the Year laurels and teamed with Erica Ramirez to go 20-8 at No. 1 doubles. Lindsay won her final six singles matches and 12 of the last 13 this season. For her career, Lindsay holds a 61-10 mark at No. 1 singles. A two-time MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recipient, Lindsay was named to Second Team All-MIAA as a freshman and First-Team All-MIAA in 2004.

Lindsay is one of four MIAA athletes to be named on either the First, Second or Third Teams - Truman State had two individuals while Missouri Southern had one.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade
point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
