Women's Tennis Drops 5-0 Match to Columbus State; Ends Season at 18-11
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Northwest Missouri State women's tennis team lost 5-0 versus No. 8 Columbus State (Ga.) today in the opening round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament played at Sanlando Park. The first round matches were scheduled begin at 1:30 p.m. EST but were delayed due to rain.
"The team we played today was just better" said 21-year head coach Mark Rosewell. "They were ranked as high as No. 5 (at one point this season). Plus, they have the No. 3 doubles team (at No. 1) in the country so they were very good."
The Bearcats could not get anything going in doubles play as the closest match was at No. 3. Sophomore Amanda Hardie and senior Raven Herner went down 8-3 against Suzanne Visagie and Marianne Berry. That play carried over to singles competition for Northwest. No. 3 and No. 6 were only completed as freshman Carolina Amaral lost at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-2, and junior Danielle Cartier bowed out to Berry, 6-0 and 6-1.
Advancing to its third straight national tournament, Northwest ends its season at 18-11 overall and winners of the North Central Region.
