Women's Tennis Wins North Central Regionals

EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Northwest Missouri State women's tennis team, who was the No. 4 seed, took down top-seeded and No. 26 Emporia State 5-1 yesterday to win the North Central Regionals. The Bearcats came back from deficits in two of three doubles play and got wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles.

The top regional duo of juniors Gena Lindsay and Erica Ramirez fought back to win at No. 1 doubles 9-7 versus ESU's Natalie Villaflor and Lacey Luina. The No. 3 tandem of sophomore Amanda Hardie and senior Raven Herner won the tiebreaker set 8-6 en route to a 9-8 win over Lauren Oakleaf and Annie Booth.

At No. 1 singles, Lindsay notched her sixth straight win, a 6-1, 6-2 victory over MIAA Freshman of the Year Marcela Bayon. Herner picked up her team-best 21st win with a 6-0, 6-1 drubbing of Boothe.

Ramirez dropped a 6-1, 6-2 affair to Villaflor at No. 2 singles in Northwest's lone loss.

Northwest will be making its second straight trip to the 24th annual NCAA Division II National Tournament in Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. May 11-14.
