Women's Tennis Team Goes to 11th Straight Regionals
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State women's tennis team heads to its 11th straight NCAA regional tournament as it earned the No. 4 seed in the North Central Region, announced today by the NCAA offices. Northwest will face No. 5 seed St. Cloud State at top seed Emporia State in the first round on May 5 at 11: 00 a.m.
"It's quite fortunate for us," said head coach Mark Rosewell. "It was one of our team goals to reach regionals. A lot of teams would be happy just to get there (regionals) once. It feels good to go again this year."
The Bearcats stand 15-9 overall, including a third-place victory over Missouri Southern in the MIAA Tournament. Since the current format of regional play began in 1995 and the top eight seeds in the region advance, the Bearcats have reached the postseason every year.
On Tuesday, the MIAA offices announced the All-MIAA Team and junior Gena Lindsay headlined a group of seven Northwest athletes. Lindsey picked up First-Team laurels for the second straight year and was the Most Valuable Player.
