Men’s basketball ranked second in MIAA polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s basketball team was ranked second in the MIAA Preseason Coaches and Media polls which were released today by the conference office.

Northwest received 149 points and six place votes in the coaches poll, and nine first-place votes and 330 points in the medial poll. Fort Hays State was tabbed as the favorite in both polls. The Tigers received 153 points and five first-place votes in the coaches poll and 353 points and 13 first-place votes in the media poll.

Head coach Ben McCollum is in his fifth season with the Bearcats. Last season Northwest advanced to the MIAA Tournament final before falling to Central Missouri State. The Bearcats finished the season with a 21-10 overall record.

Northwest will host Graceland in an exhibition game at Bearcat Arena on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. The regular season begins with a trip to Southwest Minnesota State on Nov. 9 where Northwest will play Upper Iowa and Southwest Minnesota State on back-to-back days.
