Men’s Basketball Releases 2013-14 ScheduleView the Complete 2013-14 Men’s Schedule
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri head men's basketball coach Ben McCollum has announced the team’s 2013-14 schedule. The Bearcats will look to improve upon recent success after making its second consecutive trip to the MIAA Tournament in 2012-13.
“This is one of the most challenging schedules I’ve had since I’ve been a head coach,” said McCollum. “We wanted to improve our regional strength of schedule and really challenge our team early so they get a feel for what the conference slate will be this year. The MIAA is up and it’s going to be a grind all season.”
Three of the Bearcats’ first seven opponents qualified for the NCAA tournament last season. Upper Iowa, who won 20 games last season, will face Northwest on Nov. 10 in Marshall, Minn. Five days later, the Bearcats will take on 21 game winner Midwestern State in the Hillyard Classic in St. Joseph, Mo. On Nov. 29 in Springfield, Mo., Northwest will face defending NCAA champion Drury University. The Panthers won 31 games last year and were also champions of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
MIAA competition starts on Dec. 5 as Northwest plays host to Pittsburg State. The Bearcats will begin conference play with five of its first six games within the friendly confines of Bearcat Arena. NCAA qualifiers Northeastern State and Central Missouri visit Maryville on Jan. 6 and Jan 18, respectively. The Bearcats close the season against Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., on March 1.
