Men’s basketball third in regional rankingNCAA Regional Rankings
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s basketball team was seeded third in the latest central regional ranking from the NCAA on Wednesday. Northwest, 20-6 overall, currently leads the MIAA at 15-2. Minnesota-Mankato is seeded first followed by Central Missouri. Northwest is third after being ranked fourth in the first poll last week. Other MIAA teams ranked include Missouri Southern in fourth and Fort Hays State in sixth. Central Oklahoma is currently in ninth place in the region.
The top eight teams in each of the eight NCAA regions qualify for the 64-team NCAA tournament. The top seed in each region will serve as the region host. Teams not in the top eight of the rankings can qualify for the tournament by earning the league’s automatic bid by winning the conference tournament.
The Bearcats will host Southwest Baptist on Wednesday evening. A win would give Northwest at least a share of the MIAA title. On Saturday, the Bearcats head to Central Missouri for a 3:30 p.m. contest to conclude the regular season.
