MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s basketball team continues to climb in the national rankings moving to No. 12, as they put their perfect record on the line Wednesday against Lindenwood in the MIAA opener for both teams.

The Bearcats are 6-0 on the season for the second straight season and look to pick up their first win in league play against the Lions. Last year, Northwest jumped out to an 8-0 start, including a 3-0 start in conference action to begin the season.

Northwest has been paced by junior Dillon Starzl who leads the Bearcats at 15.3 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per contest. Starzl is also coming off a career-high 24 points in last Saturday’s win over York College.

Senior Alex Sullivan has continued his hot start to the season shooting 51 percent from behind the three-point line. Sullivan is averaging 14.7 points per game and also leads the team shooting 88 percent from the free-throw line.

Lindenwood enters its first season as an NCAA Division II member and MIAA opponent with a 4-1 record. The Lions jumped out to a perfect start taking the first four games before falling Saturday to Quincy, 81-74.

Senior Alex Bazzell leads Lindenwood in scoring at 18.4 points per game and is also averaging 4.8 assist per game. Bazzell has also been impressive getting to the free-throw line and is a solid 82 percent (42-of-51) on the season.

Action from Bearcat Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. following the women’s contest. Northwest students will also receive free pizza and a T-shirt, while supplies last and have a chance to win $100.
