MARYVILLE, Mo – The 17th-ranked Northwest Missouri State men’s basketball team continues nonconference action Saturday against York College before opening MIAA play next week.

Entering the final week before teams gear up for league play, the Bearcats are again near the top of the MIAA defensively holding opponents to 54.6 points per game. In five games Northwest has only allowed one opponent to break the 60 point mark as the Bearcats sit at 5-0 on the young season.

With only one returning starter, the Bearcats have found a trio of players to step up and none may be hotter than senior Alex Sullivan. Sullivan has been deadly from beyond the three-point line shooting 54 percent (19-of-35) and leading Northwest in scoring at 16 points per game.

Along with Sullivan, junior Dillon Starzl has continued his solid play in the post averaging 13.6 points per game and averaging 6.2 rebounds per contest.

Senior DeAngelo Hailey has also found his groove as the Sixth Man. Hailey has led the Bearcats in scoring in each of the last two games coming off the bench and is averaging 15.5 points per game along with shooting an impressive 90 percent from the free-throw line.

York College enters with a 9-3 record and is led by Thaddeus Varmall. Varmall averages 21.7 points per game which also leads NAIA in scoring as well and leads the Panthers in rebounding averaging eight per game.

Saturday’s tip from Bearcat Arena is set for 3:30 p.m. and can be heard on the Bearcat Radio Network.
