Bearcat hoops picked third in MIAA Preseason Polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State men’s basketball was tabbed third in both the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll and Media Poll released Tuesday.

The Bearcats finished 22-7 and shared the MIAA Regular Season Championship with Central Missouri and Washburn last season as the Ichabods claimed the postseason tournament title. Northwest received one first place vote in the Coaches Poll for 170 points while Washburn received 11 first place votes and 188 points. The Mules were tabbed second with three first place votes and 180 points.

Fort Hays State and Pittsburg State each received 137 points to tie for fourth place, followed by Missouri Southern to round out the top six of the Coaches Poll.

Washburn received 17 first place votes for 267 points to top the Media Poll as well. Central Missouri was picked second followed by Northwest and Missouri Southern in third and fourth respectively. The Lions received the only other first place vote in the media poll as Pittsburg State rounds out the media top five.

The Bearcats tipoff the 2012-13 season Oct. 29 in exhibition action at the University of Missouri. The regular season opener for Northwest is set for Nov. 11 against Graceland at Bearcat Arena.
