Bearcats earn spot on CBS Game of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS – Thursday the NCAA and the CBS Sports Network announced the 2013 regular season television schedule for the upcoming basketball season that will feature both the Northwest Missouri State basketball teams.
The program, now
in its seventh year, will feature nine men's and women's games from seven
different Division II conferences. Two of the telecasts will feature men's and
women's doubleheaders – the Jan. 5 games involving Northwest Missouri State at
Pittsburg State and Delta State's Jan. 26 visit to Valdosta State.
“Our membership
continues to value this program,” said Division II Vice President Mike Racy.
“Not only does it give our schools an opportunity to showcase their
student-athletes, it also gives them a big platform to tell the world about
their overall institution and their community.”
The package also will include defending Division II women's champion Shaw,
which hosts Johnson C. Smith on Feb. 23, and a March 2 appearance by defending
men's champion Western Washington, which will host Simon Fraser, the NCAA's
first international member.
“We are very excited to be featured in nationally televised games on CBS,” said
Northwest Director of Athletics Wren Baker. “We enjoy a healthy and spirited
rivalry with Pitt State and we believe this will be a fun game for our
student-athletes, fans and alumni.”
The Bearcat men are coming off the program’s 13th conference championship and
13th trip to the NCAA tournament. The Northwest women will be under the
guidance of first-year Head Coach Mark Kellogg who inherits a team that missed
last year’s MIAA tournament, but guided Fort Lewis (Colo.) to the last five
NCAA tournaments.
