Three Bearcats earn All-MIAA honors

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State sophomore DeShaun Cooper and seniors Elijah Allen and Arunas Simanavicius earned conference awards Tuesday as the MIAA released its all-conference men's basketball team.
Cooper is a second-team All-MIAA choice, Allen is a third-team selection and Simanavicius is one of five players picked to the league's all-defensive team. The Bearcats' three selections tie league-champion Missouri Southern and Nebraska-Omaha for the most in the conference.
Cooper finished seventh in the league in scoring at 17.7 points per game and made 48 percent of his shots which ranked sixth. He scored 31 points twice and dished out eight or more assists six times. His league average of 5.1 assists per game ranked third.
Allen led the Bearcats and was one of the top rebounders in the league at nearly seven per game. He was Northwest's second-leading scorer behind Cooper at 15 points per game and finished with 1,289 career points. His 19 blocked shots and 29 assists were career highs.
Simanavicius led Northwest with 31 steals this season and finished second to Allen in team rebounds with nearly five per game. Simanavicius had a career-high six steals in Northwest upset of seventh-ranked Fort Hays State and he led the team in rebounds eight times in 26 games. On the offensive end, he was one of two Bearcats who made half the shots he took.
The Bearcats won six of their final nine games to finish 10-16 overall and 8-14 in MIAA play. It is the 35th consecutive season that the program has won 10 games or more.
