Long-range shooting pushes Central past Northwest
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Ryan Harris made seven three-pointers and scored a season-high 25 points to lead Central Missouri to an 81-68 win against Northwest Missouri State Wednesday at Bearcat Arena.
The Mules (9-6, 4-5 MIAA) tied a season-high with 13 made three-pointers to help end a three-game skid. Boo Hunter was 3 of 4 from long range and added 19 points for Central Missouri.
DeShaun Cooper scored 20 points and Elijah Allen had 18 to lead Northwest (4-9, 2-7) which lost at home for the third time this season. The Bearcats were 6 of 15 from three-point range.
Central Missouri made 14 of its first 20 shots on the night and led 41-16 with four minutes remaining in the first half. Harris had 13 first-half points and out-scored Northwest by himself through the game's first 10 minutes.
Northwest fought back and trimmed the lead down to 11, 49-38, five minutes into the second half. Central Missouri responded with four consecutive three-pointers - two by Harris - to push the lead back to 23.
Central Missouri shot better from three-point range (13 of 26) than the team did from inside the arc (13 of 28). It's just the fourth win for the Mules in Bearcat Arena in their last 16 tries.
