Northwest Picks Up 83-70 Win in Omaha
OMAHA, Neb.-Girod Adams scored a game-high 26 points and Elijah Allen added 23 to lead Northwest Missouri State to an 83-70 win against Nebraska-Omaha Wednesday night at Sapp Fieldhouse. It's the Bearcats (11-10, 6-8 MIAA) third win in four games and the team's second road victory this season.
Allen pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to record the fourth double-double of his career. It was also his third straight 20-point effort and the 10th such effort in 21 games this season.
Adams made six of the Bearcats' eight 3-pointers to help record his second-highest point total of the season. He was also 6-of-6 from the charity stripe as Northwest, the nation's sixth-best free-throw shooting team, made 19-of-21.
Andrew Bridger and Jeff Martin scored 13 points each to pace Nebraska-Omaha, but the Mavericks (14-6, 7-6 MIAA) couldn't avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season. Nebraska-Omaha shot 40 percent from the field and was outrebounded 45-23. Northwest had 18 offensive rebounds which led to 20 second-chance points.
Northwest trailed 43-31 at halftime, but outscored Nebraska-Omaha 31-9 during the first 10 minutes of the second half. Adams made four 3-pointers and scored 18 points in the second frame. The Bearcats were 18-of-19 from the free-throw line in the final 20 minutes.
Bearcat forward Jake Reinders earned his sixth career start, scored 14 points and finished one rebound shy of his first collegiate double-double. Tyler Bullock had 12 points and Matt Newman added 11 for the Mavericks.
