Northwest Missouri State 73, Pittsburg State 65
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State guard Girod Adams scored more than 20 points for the third game in a row and totaled 22 in a 73-65 win against Pittsburg State Wednesday at Bearcat Arena. The win ends a four-game skid for Northwest (6-5, 2-3 MIAA).
Adams added season highs of seven rebounds and seven assists. He was 4-of-8 from behind the arc while his teammates combined finished 2-of-12. Adams had 17 points in the second half.
Pittsburg State (6-6, 0-5) led by 10 early on only to see the Bearcats close the half on a 21-9 run. Northwest led 34-31 at the break.
Adams hit a three-pointer and added a jumper in the first three minutes of the second half to help the Bearcats extend their lead to 43-33. Pittsburg State closed the gap to four several times near the five-minute mark but couldn't draw closer. The Gorillas scored three points in the final 3:33.
Spencer Magana hit three consecutive 3's in the first five minutes of the game, but finished 4-of-13 from beyond the arc and 6-of-22 for the game. He did make 7-of-8 free throws and led all scorers with 23 points.
Rodney Grace added 16 for the Gorillas but faced a constant double team in the second half that slowed Pittsburg State's offense. JaVon McGee added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Gorillas.
Elijah Allen tied his career high with five steals to go with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Edriss Floyd added 12 points off the Bearcat bench.
