MIAA Holds Annual Basketball Media Day
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) held its annual men's and women's basketball media day Tuesday at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Kansas City.
The event featured a radio row, which allowed players and coaches to speak with the various radio affiliates of the conference. A second session provided interviews and requests for newspaper and television media outlets.
Northwest Missouri State head women's basketball coach Gene Steinmeyer and men's coach Ben McCollum were in attendance. At their sides were sophomore point guard Abby Henry and junior forward Elijah Allen.
Both defending champions, the Southwest Baptist men and the Emporia State women, were picked to repeat in the preseason coaches poll. The media poll, conducted for the first time this season, preferred Final Four-member Central Missouri on the men's side.
Bearcat fans will learn plenty of new faces on both Northwest teams this season. The men return seven players from last year's squad while the women return five.
You can catch first glimpse of the Bearcat men Nov. 13 in Columbia when the Missouri Tigers host Northwest in exhibition play. The Northwest women open at home two days later against Upper Iowa at 2 p.m. The men host Manhattan Christian Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
