Northwest Goes For Sweep of Truman
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State goes for its first three-game win streak of the season at 7:30 p.m. tonight against Truman inside Bearcat Arena.
The Bearcats (11-12, 6-10 MIAA) stand one game behind eighth-place Missouri Southern and 1.5 games behind seventh-place Missouri Western with four games to go. The top eight advance to the MIAA Tournament.
Northwest is coming off back-to-back wins for the fifth time this season, but have yet to string together three in a row. Truman (6-18, 1-16 MIAA) hasn't won a game on the road all season and has just one win since Thanksgiving. The Bulldogs have lost 17 of their last 18 games.
Northwest forwards Hunter Henry and Elijah Allen combined for 46 points and 19 rebounds in a 72-63 win against Truman in Kirksville back on Jan. 10. The team's were tied at 32 at the half. Henry and Allen scored 31 of the Bearcats' 40 second-half points.
Henry scored 25 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in Saturday's win at Missouri Western. It was his 11th double-double of the season. Henry continues to lead the MIAA in rebounding (8.7 rpg). He ranks second in field goal percentage and blocked shots and stands fourth in scoring (one point behind second place).
Truman has lost eight in a row including an 83-72 decision against Nebraska-Omaha last weekend. The Bulldogs shot 52 percent from the field and got 19 points from Ethan Freeman in the loss. Freeman and Alex Henderson combined for 35 points on 14-of-17 shooting.
Northwest has won the last five meetings in its series with Truman dating back to February of 2006. The Bearcats have won nine of the last 10 meetings in Maryville.
