Game Notes (.pdf)

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State (7-9, 2-7 MIAA) wraps up the first half of the MIAA slate tonight by hosting the Missouri Southern Lions (15-4, 5-4) inside Bearcat Arena. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The teams split their series last year with both teams winning on the other's home court. Missouri Southern won 81-77 last January, marking the Lions' third-ever win in Maryville in 17 tries.

The Lions won their first 12 games this season and were ranked as high as No. 10. But four losses in their last seven games, including three straight road losses, forced the team out of the rankings this week. Missouri Southern is sixth in the MIAA standings entering play tonight.

The Bearcats have bounced back from a 0-6 start in league play to win two of their last three. Northwest begins its first and only three-game home stand tonight and will play five of its next six at Bearcat Arena where the team is 4-2 this season.

Northwest forwards Hunter Henry and Elijah Allen have scored more than half of the Bearcats' points over the last nine games. Both have reached double figures in their last nine, and Henry's 13-game, double-digit scoring streak in the longest active streak in the league.

Henry, the MIAA's leading rebounder at 9.4 per game, will have a four-inch height advantage against the starting five for the Lions tonight. He's scored 20 points in three of his last four meetings with Missouri Southern.

The Lions get 13 points per game from sophomore guard Skyler Bowlin and senior forward Vincent Ateba. Bowlin has quickly emerged as one of the top guards in the league. In addition to being the conference's top free-throw shooter, he ranks second in steals and seventh in assists.

Northwest continues its home stand Saturday against Emporia State and plays the finale next Wednesday against Washburn. The Bearcats are two games outside of eighth-place in the league with 11 games remaining.
