Bearcats Return Home To End Skid

Game Notes (.pdf)

MARYVILLE, Mo.-A three-game road trip to begin conference play resulted in Northwest's first three-game losing streak in nearly three years. The Bearcats (3-4) look to turn the tables Wednesday in a home meeting with William Woods (4-7). Tip is 7 p.m.

Northwest returns to Bearcat Arena for the first time since Nov. 25. The Bearcats are 2-0 at home with 46- and 40-point victories.

Northwest has three games to try to right the ship before returning to MIAA play in late December. The Bearcats' next three opponents, all out of conference, hold a combined record of 9-19.

William Woods, an NAIA Division I member, is picked to finish fourth in the American Midwest Conference this season. The Owls' four wins have all come at home in Fulton, Mo. The team is 0-2 in true road games.

Senior guard Justin Cornelius leads William Woods with 11.4 points per game. Sophomore forward Justin Gilmore adds 7.5 points and is the team's leading rebounder. The Owls have blocked 57 shots this season and rank seventh in Division I in that category.

Northwest senior forward Hunter Henry is coming off a 16-point, 11-rebound performance in a loss at Nebraska-Omaha last weekend. It was his third double-double this season in seven games. Henry leads the Bearcats with 15.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Junior forward Shawn Carter scored a season-high 14 points against Nebraska-Omaha and is averaging 9.9 points. Junior guard DaJuan Harris has averaged 14 points in three Northwest wins. His average dips to 7.3 in four Northwest losses.

Northwest Head Coach Steve Tappmeyer is in search of career win No. 400. He'd become the 28th active NCAA Division II head coach to reach the mark with a win Wednesday.

Notes:
• 2008 Miss Missouri Lacey Fitzgerald, a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, will sing Wednesday's national anthem. She'll also be available afterwards to sign autographs.
• Wednesday is an exhibition game for William Woods.
• William Woods is scheduled to play Missouri Valley College Tuesday in Marshall, Mo.
