Northwest Tops Livin' the Dream 70-65
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Shawn Carter and DaJuan Harris scored 15 points each and Hunter Henry added 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Northwest Missouri State to a 70-65 win against Livin' the Dream in an exhibition game at Bearcat Arena Monday.
Mike Larsen added 13 points, including two free throws with 27 seconds left that gave the Bearcats a three-point lead. Carter added another pair of free throws with 13 seconds remaining to secure the win.
Livin' the Dream, a group of former collegiate and professional players, got 11 points from Roland Coppage and 10 points and six assists from Walter Bethea.
Northwest never trailed in the contest and took a 50-40 lead on a three-point play from Elijah Allen with 11 minutes left in the second half.
Livin' the Dream scored on seven straight possessions and climbed within a point on a 3-pointer by Coppage, his second of the game.
Harris scored the Bearcats' next five points and Carter nailed a 3 to give Northwest a 62-58 lead with five minutes left to play.
The lead was 66-62 with 1:02 left when Livin' the Dream's Schyler Thomas was fouled on a 3-point try and nailed all three free throws. Henry grabbed a key offensive rebound on the Bearcats ensuing possession and Livin' the Dream was forced to foul Larsen.
Northwest shot 50 percent in the second half and outrebounded Livin' the Dream 40-36. Harris had six boards and four steals to go along with his 15 points.
Up Next: The 16th-ranked Bearcats open their season Nov. 18 at home against Peru State.
