Men's Basketball Ranked No. 4 in NABC Preseason Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State men's basketball earned its second preseason national accolade with a No. 4 ranking by the National Basketball Coaches Association. It's the highest such ranking since Feb. 4, 2004, when the Bearcats were ranked No. 2 in nationwide polls.

The Bearcats are listed behind Winona (Minn.) State, Bentley (Mass.) and Grand Valley (Mich.) State. The only other MIAA school listed in the poll is Emporia State, who came in at No. 23.

Northwest is picked as the unanimous favorite to win the MIAA title after going 24-7 last season as co-champions of the MIAA. Earlier this season, Sporting News magazine tabbed the Bearcats No. 4 in its preseason ranking.

Head Coach Steve Tappmeyer enters his 20th season as the all-time winningest coach in program history with 372. He returns his four leading scorers and seven letterwinners from last season's squad.

The Bearcats open the 2007-08 season by hosting the Ryland Milner Classic on Nov. 16-17. Northwest takes on Baker (Kan.) on Nov. 16 followed by St. Mary (Kan.) the next night in a pair of 7:30 p.m. games.
