Allen Signs With 2007-08 MBB Team; First in Recruiting Class

MARYVILE - Northwest Missouri State head men's basketball coach Steve Tappmeyer announced the signing of Elijah Allen (Columbus, Ohio) to a National Letter Intent today. Allen, a 6-4, 205 lb. guard, will be a freshman at Northwest for the 2007-08 season. This is the first signing in the 2008 class.

"We're very excited about Elijah's decision to join the Bearcat basketball family," said Tappmeyer. "He possesses all the important qualities that we look for in a player and a person. Elijah is a talented young man with a bright future ahead of him. He'll be a great fit here at Northwest.".

Allen graduated from St. Francis DeSales (Ohio) High School. and played four years for the Stallions. He was a two-time Central Catholic League (CCL) performer and helped lead his team to back-to-back league and district titles, a feat that has been done just twice in CCL history. As a senior, he posted averages of 18 points and eight rebounds and earned all-state second team honors. He became DeSale's all-time scoring leader during his senior campaign.

During 2006-07, Allen was part of a team to go 10-0 in the CCL, post a 22-3 record and appear in Ohio's Division II Final Four round. As a junior, the program won its second ever conference championship and went 19-7 overall. During that season, Allen was named to the all-state third-team.

Elijah is the son of Artist and Floretta Allen.

Northwest ended its season in the second round of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament with a 24-7 record. The Bearcats won their 11th overall MIAA Championship, sharing it with Central Missouri. Northwest is expected to return 12 letterwinners and four starters.
