Henry Wrangles 4th MIAA Player of the Week
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Northwest Missouri State sophomore Hunter Henry (Lenexa, Kan.) was tabbed with his fourth Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Player of the Week this season, which was announced late today (Feb. 26) by the league offices. Henry, who also earned MIAA Player of the Year accolades earlier today, was named Player of the Week back on Jan. 2 (Co-Player), Feb. 5 and Feb. 19.
He was a big reason for two wins last week and earn Northwest a MIAA Co-Championship. The 6-foot-8, 190-pound forward averaged 19.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocked shots. He put up his 10th 20-point effort with a game-best 23 points in the 69-61 win at Missouri Western and followed that up with a career-high 16 rebounds and 16 points in the 66-40 victory over Fort Hays.
Henry enters the MIAA Tournament ranked second in the league in field goal percentage (.582), third in scoring (17.7), fourth in rebounding (7.8), sixth in blocked shots (1.15) and 10th in free throw percentage (.755). He currently stands with a 23-game streak of scoring 10-plus points and has nine double-doubles to his credit on the year. His career-high 33 point effort against Washburn (Feb. 14) ties for the single-game high in the conference and personal-best 16-rebound performance versus Fort Hays State (Feb. 24) ties for 10th all-time on the single-game list at Northwest.
Northwest secured the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament to be played at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. The Bearcats will take on No. 8-seed Missouri Southern on Thursday at 12 p.m. in the opening round. The two teams split the season series.
