Andy Peterson Tabbed With Academic All-District Third Team Honors
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Northwest Missouri State junior guard Andy Peterson (Trenton, Mo.) was selected to the 2007 CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Men's Basketball Third Team, as announced by ESPN The Magazine today (Feb. 8). Peterson carries a 3.8 grade point average in the field of agricultural economics. This is the first such award in Peterson's career.
"This is a real fitting award -- it shows how all-around of a student-athlete that Andy is," said head coach Steve Tappmeyer. "He has been great off the floor in the classroom and, because of his leadership and basketball ability, he is a huge part of our team."
Peterson is third on the team in scoring (10.4 ppg), second in three-pointers (27) and third in rebounding (4.2). His 1.8 steals per contest rank fourth in the conference. He has scored in double figures in five of his last eight games averaging 12.6 during that stretch. Included in that time was a season-best 22-point outing in a win over previously-undefeated Emporia State (Jan. 24). He is a starter in all 18 of his appearances and averages 27.7 minutes/contest.
The Bearcats, who stand with a half-game lead on top of the MIAA standings at 11-2, will be on the road again on Saturday as they travel to Pittsburg State. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her
current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in
1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
