Lance Sullivan Earns First Career MIAA Award
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Northwest Missouri State men's basketball redshirt-freshman Lance Sullivan (Columbus, Ohio) was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Player of the Week, announced today by the conference offices. Sullivan becomes the second Bearcat honored this season after sophomore Hunter Henry notched the award on Jan. 2.
Sullivan, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound guard, averaged 18.5 points and 3.5 assists in leading the No. 19 Bearcats to two wins last week, including one over previously-unbeaten Emporia State last Wednesday. He matched a collegiate career high of 20 points thanks to 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range in Northwest's 89-72 road win over the then-No. 7 Hornets. The win ended ESU's 16-game win streak to begin the season.
His play late helped the Northwest comeback after the Bearcats fell down 16-0 in the early going. Sullivan's back-to-back treys helped spark a 14-6 run to open the second half. He also added four assists and two steals in the game.
He scored 14 of his 17 points against Southwest Baptist Saturday (Jan. 27) in the second half, including a jumper with 1:10 left to give Northwest a four-point lead and seal the 68-63 win. He connected on 8-of-11 free throws, including 4-of-6 in the final minute down the stretch.
Sullivan is currently first on the team in 3-pointers (34) and second in scoring (11.1 ppg), steals (27) and assists (40).
Northwest stays at home to host No. 7 Emporia State on Wednesday, Jan. 31 for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
