Bearcats Hold On for 59-53 Win Over #17 Metro State at River City Classic
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - ( stats) The #12 Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team trailed for the first eight minutes, but a 12-0 run gave them a four-point lead, and Northwest would never trail again defeating #17 Metro State 59-53 in the River City Classic hosted by St. Mary's University this afternoon.
A stingy Bearcat defense allowed just 10 points the last 15 minutes of the first half. The Roadrunners battled back in the second half outscoring Northwest 30-22. The Bearcats won despite shooting 29.6 percent from the field, their second lowest of the season, but did hit 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from 3-point land in the first half.
Sophomore Hunter Henry led the Bearcats for the seventh time this season, hitting for 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting. Two other players entered double digits as freshman Lance Sullivan and junior Andy Peterson chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively. Hunter also topped the rebound charts with seven as Northwest out-rebounded Metro State 41-39. Ten Bearcat players recorded at least 12 minutes to keep up with the Roadrunners full court pressure.
The Roadrunners were led by Terrell Burgess' 20 points, the only Metro State player in double digits, as he shot 7-of-11 from the field. Metro State shot 36.5 percent from the field and had 24 turnovers.
Northwest improves to 8-1 (1-0 MIAA) overall and will play Midwestern (Texas) State tomorrow at noon. Midwestern State beat Pittsburg State 74-71 in the first game of the St. Mary's River City Classic today.
