Northwest Men's Hoops Sits 7th in DII Bulletin Preseason Poll

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Coming off a 22-10 record and a Sweet 16 appearance, Northwest Missouri State men's basketball was ranked No. 7 in the Division II Bulletin Preseason Top 25, announced on Oct. 12. Division II Bulletin, published since 1991, is the leading publication covering Division II Men's Basketball. It is published 12 times during the basketball season and order information can be found at http://home.teleport.com/~gsr

"I think this poll is based more on respect and past success than what we are this season," said head coach Steve Tappmeyer. "This year, we are a work in progress and it (poll) is something we don't deserve right now but definitely something we can work towards."

Northwest has just one starter back in junior forward Matt Withers as well as nine newcomers in the mix. Withers averaged 7.0 points and 4.9 rebounds while shooting a team-high 63 percent from the field last season. The Bearcats are without leading scorer and All-MIAA performer Mose Howard (Sr., G) who will redshirt due to an off-season knee injury.

Southwest Baptist, who Northwest defeated 3 of 4 times last season including in the South Central Region Semifinals, stands as the only other MIAA team ranked with a No. 13 spot. Winona (Minn.) State is the pick to repeat as champions after winning the 2006 Championship.

Northwest opens up its season with
an exhibition contest at Bradley (Ill.) on Nov. 4 at 2:05 p.m. The first home game is scheduled for Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. to start the Ryland Milner Classic.
