Cayruth Signs for 2006-07 With Men's Basketball Program
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State head men's basketball coach Steve Tappmeyer announced today the signing of Kelvin Cayruth (Durham, N.C.) to a Northwest scholarship. Cayruth, who comes from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, will enter the 2006-07 season as a 6-5, 210 lb. junior forward.
"We had a need in that position and we really feel that Cayruth will meet that need," said Tappmeyer. "He will be a front-line player for us. We really like his versatility to step inside and play around the basket at his size. We are excited for him to join the program."
At Hutchinson, Cayruth was second on the team in rebounding (5.9), shot 48 percent from the field and averaged 6.8 points last season for a team that went 17-13 overall.
As a prep at Abundant Life Christian (N.C.) Academy, Cayruth was selected as conference MVP and an all-conference first team selection. He also earned all-tournament first team honors.
Cayruth plans to major in recreation at Northwest. He is the son of Michelle Cayruth.
Northwest lifts the lid on the 2006-07 season with an exhibition contest at Division I Bradley University on Nov. 4. The Bearcats are coming off a 22-10 season in which they reached the Sweet 16 -- seven first-year players join five returners. 2006-07 Signees * Kelvin Cayruth (Durham, N.C.) * John Hawkins (Independence, Mo.) * Mike Larsen (Salt Lake City, Utah) * Clint McFall (Olathe, Kan.)
