Howard Out for 2006-07 SeasonMARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State men's basketball junior guard Mose Howard (Omaha, Neb.) will sit out the 2006-07 season as a medical red shirt. Howard tore his MCL and ACL in his left knee in off-season workouts a few weeks ago.
"It definitely is a blow to Mose and the team," said head coach Steve Tappmeyer. "We are trying to make the best of the situation and feel that if Mose sits out next year that he can fully recover for 2007-08. I know with his hard work and attitude that he will be ready to have a great senior season."
Howard, who earned co-MVP team honors, ranked first on the team in several offensive categories including scoring (13.5 ppg), assists (95), 3-pointers (62) and games of double-digit scoring (26). In the MIAA, Howard was 10th in scoring, seventh in assists and second in steals (2.16/game). Earlier in the year, the transfer from UMKC rattled off 14 straight games of 10-plus points - the best streak in 2 seasons for a Bearcat. Earning recognition on the Honorable Mention All-MIAA Team and All-MIAA Defensive Team, Howard recorded eight steals against Baker (Nov. 19), which was two shy of the league record and tied a school highwater mark.
Northwest advanced to the Sweet 16 losing in the South Central Region Championship to Tarleton (Tex.) State on March 14. The Bearcats finished 22-10 overall and will lose three players to graduation
