Northwest Makes 10th NCAA Regional Appearance; Earns Fifth Seed in South Central Region
INDIANAPOLIS - Northwest Missouri State men's basketball is heading to its 10th NCAA Division II Playoffs after earning the fifth seed in the South Central Region, announced late Sunday by the NCAA offices. Northwest takes on West Texas A&M, the No. 4 seed out of the Lone Star Conference, on Saturday, March 11 at 6 p.m. CST. The two teams square off in Bolivar, Mo., the site of No. 1 seed Southwest Baptist.
The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M are located in Canyon, Texas with an enrollment of 7,296. Winners of the Lone Star Conference Tournament, WTA&M stands 23-7 having won its last four games. Senior guard Ronnie Holmes tops the club in scoring with over 18 points per game. Junior guard Damien Lolar pours in 16.6 points and snares a team-best 6.8 rebounds per contest. The Buffs nearly make more free throws than their opponents attempts with 543 makes compared to 568 attempts by the opposition.
Northwest is 2-0 against the Lone Star Conference this season having defeated Southeastern Oklahoma on Nov. 25 (64-51) and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Dec. 16 (73-68). Both of those contests were in neutral settings.
In other South Central Region games: Southwest Baptist takes on No. 8 St. Edward's (Tex.) while No. 2 Tarleton (Tex.) State faces No. 7 Central Oklahoma. Two MIAA schools battle with No. 3 Central Missouri State going against No. 6 Truman State. The region semifinals take place on Sunday, March 12 with the Championship on Tuesday, March 14. Finalized times of the other games will be announced this Monday.

Northwest, who stands at 20-9 overall, holds a 7-12 all-time mark in NCAA Tournament action. The Bearcats have never faced West Texas A&M in the playoffs and are 0-2 all-time against the Buffaloes with the last meeting on Nov. 19, 1988 as WTA&M won 108-105 in overtime.
