Northwest Sits No. 4 in Region
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team moved up one spot to No. 4 in the latest South Central Region, announced this afternoon. The top eight teams in the region, as long as all three conferences are represented, will receive the right to play in the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals.
Last week, the Bearcats were fifth but moved up thanks to two Truman State losses and a 73-58 Bearcat win over Washburn on Feb. 22. Truman was fourth in the Feb 22 poll. Southwest Baptist, a squad that Northwest has swept this season, holds down the No. 1 slot followed by Tarleton (Tex.) State (No. 2) and Central Missouri State (No. 3).
Northwest takes on Missouri Western, the No. 5 seed in the MIAA, on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the MIAA Tournament. The Griffons moved into the regional rankings at No. 10.
The MIAA Tournament champion earns an automatic bid to regional play at the No. 1 seed on March 11-12, 14. The postseason field will be announced live on www.ncaasports.com on Sunday, March 5 at 9:30 p.m. CST.
