Bearcats Prep For MIAA Play With 108-67 Exhibition Win Over DreambuildersMARYVILLE, Mo. - Senior Austin Meyer led four players in double figures as Northwest Missouri State overpowered Dreambuilders 108-67 tonight in exhibition action at Bearcat Arena. Meyer scored 15 of his points in the second half helping Northwest to a 59 percent mark from the field.
Senior Xzavier Gaines finished with 15 points and a game-best nine rebounds while sophomore Andy Peterson had 14 and junior Mose Howard added 13 and five assists. All 12 Bearcats in uniform got into the scoring column.
The Northwest offense got going right away racing out to a 11-0 lead with four different Bearcats scoring. Dreambuilders, which consisted of former Division I-AA, II and NAIA athletes, did not score until a jumper by Brandon Pate at the 15:28 mark.
Sparked by 13 first-half point by Gaines, Northwest held a 52-29 lead at the half shooting 62 percent (21-of-34) from the floor. Dreambuilders was a dismal 10-of-27 (.370) from the field in the first 20 minutes and turned the ball over 10 times.
The Bearcat advantage would only increase in the second half with Northwest holding the guests to 39 percent (24-of-61) shooting overall.
Northwest was +11 on the boards (43-32) and totaled 30 points off of 20 Dreambuilders' turnovers.
Matt Harms led the way for Dreambuilders with 16 points and Alberto Reyes added 14.
Northwest, who is 9-2 on the season, heads to No. 11 Central Missouri State on Saturday to open up Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action. Tip-off from Warrensburg, Mo., is 3:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
