'Cats Pick Up 11th Straight Home Win in 85-53 Decision Over Central Bible

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team forced 25 turnovers and held Central Bible (Mo.) College to 39 percent shooting in the 85-53 victory tonight at Bearcat Arena. The win pushes Northwest's season mark to 7-1 and the 'Cats have now won 39 straight home non-conference games. Meanwhile, Central Bible falls to 6-7 overall.

Both teams struggled to put points on the board in the early going. Central Bible did not light the scoreboard until a three-pointer by Will Kitchen at the 16:31 mark - at that point Northwest held a slight 4-3 edge. The guests hung around after a jumper by Kendall Alfaro put the score at 6-5 in favor of Northwest. But the 'Cats used a 19-7 spurt to jump out to a 25-12 lead capped by a Joel Osborn trey.

The Bearcats increased their advantage to 42-18 by halftime, limiting Central Bible to just four points in the final 8:37 of the half. On the flip side, Northwest scored 17 points during that span.

Central cut the deficit to 19 points at 42-23 with 18:10 remaining, however, a three-point play by Byron Jackson and a long-range shot by Austin Meyer ballooned the 'Cat lead back above 20 points for the final 15 minutes of the game.

Overall, Northwest went 28-of-57 (.491) from the field and 12-of-25 (.480) from downtown. The 'Cats held a 46-14 bench scoring advantage.

Northwest, which was not ranked in the NABC polls today for the first time in 13 weeks, received balanced scoring with six players posting nine or more points. The scoring flurry was led by Meyer's 12 followed by Bilal Clarance and Matt Withers with 11 and Jesse Shaw with 10. Withers, Meyer and Jackson tied for team-high rebounding honors with five apiece.

Central Bible, who shot just six-of-18 (.333) from three-point range and was out-rebounded 35-27, got 20 points from Will Kitchen and 14 points from Tim Perkins.

Northwest closes out its home non-conference schedule hosting Clarke (Iowa) College on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 4:00 p.m.
