Bearcats Outlast Missouri-Rolla, 73-60

MARYVILLE , Mo. -- No. 4 Northwest Missouri State continued conference play Saturday afternoon with a 73-60 win over Missouri-Rolla in Bearcat Arena.

Northwest was paced by Kelvin Parker (Sr., Raytown, Mo.) and Austin Meyer (Soph., Blue Springs, Mo.). Parker scored 22 points, while Meyer added 14 points.

The Bearcats and Miners came out strong in the first half. Northwest grabbed the early 6-0 lead on back-to-back jumper by Parker, but the Miners were determined to stay close. A 7-0 run by Rolla, capped by a three-pointer by Kerry Darting, gave Rolla the 7-6 lead with just over 14 minutes left in the half. Another offensive burst gave the 'Cats back the lead, and a three-point bucket by Sky Wilson (Jr., Indio, Calif.) put the 'Cats in front by eight.

Once again the lead changed hands, as the Miners took a 21-19 lead on a three-pointer by DeAndre Johnson with just over six minutes remaining. Neither team led by more than three points for the rest of the first half. A free throw by Parker sent the game into halftime tied at 30-30.

The second half began much like the first half ended. The lead changed hands eight times in the first five minutes of the second stanza. With the game tied at 43-43, a jumper by Byron Jackson (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) put the 'Cats in front for good with 13:01 left in the game. Jackson's buckets sparked a 11-5 run by the Bearcats, which pushed the lead to eight points with just over six minutes to play.

Rolla continued to battle but could not get any closer than six down the stretch. The 'Cats used a 14-9 in the last five minutes en route to the 73-60 victory.

Victor James (Fresh., Crowley, Texas) added eight points, while Keanan Weir (Sr., Detroit, Mich.), Jackon and Wilson chipped in with seven points each. Wilson also notched a team-high eight boards.
